Tiffany Borders, who still finds laughs in Surely You're
Joking Mr. Fenyman, got a kick-start on her astronomy career at age
four when she received her first, very own department store telescope
(the one we are told never to buy). A native to Los Angeles, she has
attended Sonoma State University since 1999 pursuing a B.S. in physics
with minor in astronomy. She hopes to continue in her quest for knowledge
in graduate school studying astronomy.
Tiffany is interested in observational astronomy and "enjoys"
sitting in the freezing cold weather of Northern California taking images
of the sky in what are assuredly and undeniably not department store
telescopes. Her research at the Sonoma State observatory includes such
projects as imaging gamma-ray loud active galactic nuclei to establish
a baseline for variability in support of the GLAST mission and as part
of the GLAST telescope network. She is also searching for variable stars
in the anti-galactic region of our galaxy and monitoring the brightness
variations for selected classes of objects. Her research interests are
in AGN, GRB's, and star formation.
During the summer of 02’ she held an intern position at the Space
Telescope Science Institute working on image processing for the
Hubble Heritage Project. Tiffany was responsible for the September 2002
release of Hoag’s
Object and February 2004 release of M64
"The Black Eye Galaxy". In the summer of 03’ she
worked at the National Radio Astronomy
Observatory in Socorro, NM on a research project titled, “VLBA
Water Maser and VLA Ammonia Observations of the Early B Protostar G192.16-3.82”.
Tiffany brings her enthusiasm and support to the GLAST EPO team!
