Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates for the 2009 Mavericks in the Classroom - Rocket Science Safari?
The earliest we can apply for waivers to launch rockets is January 1, 2009. And because weather and environmental conditions greatly affect our ability to launch rockets, we have picked two possible weeks during which the Rocket Science Safari program will take place. The first option is June 21 - June 28, 2009. The second possibility is Aug 2 - Aug 9, 2009.
Do both registered teachers have to attend?
Yes, both teachers will need to attend and each will get the same benefits, i.e. stipend, travel expenses including accommodation and meals, along with Tripoli Certification.
Do both registrants have to be science teachers?
No. Although we prefer science teachers, the second teacher can be from any other discipline.
What types of rockets will we be working with?
The rockets kits we provide are capable of supersonic speeds and meant to be recoverable and reusable. As such, they will be made of composites including but not limited to aluminum and fiberglass.
Will it be possible to earn extension credits for participating in the training program.
Yes, please let us know ahead of time if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.
